Kids Can Press (KCP), One Hen, Inc. and Hasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ:HAS) have teamed up to create Chutes and Ladders® The Good Garden Edition, a special edition of the classic board game that encourages kids to learn more about the global food crisis through play. The game, based on the book The Good Garden: How One Family Went from Hunger to Having Enough from the acclaimed KCP CitizenKid™ series, will be donated to 500 elementary schools across Canada.
“Both the game and the book are designed to introduce young people to the issue of food security,” said Lisa Lyons, President,Kids Can Press. “Using these materials in classrooms is a great way to inspire students to make a difference both locally and globally.”
In Chute and Ladders® The Good Garden Edition, players take on the role of small time farmers moving from hunger to having enough. The farmers climb the “ladders” toward food security by acquiring land rights, crop insurance, agricultural training, fair loans better seeds or an additional farm animal. Meanwhile, the farmers’ ”chutes,” which can set back hard-won gains, represent drought, soil erosion, insect infestation, insufficient credit and loss of land.

The game, part of One Hen’s Good Garden Enrichment Program, will not be sold in stores and is only available for a limited time.
