It's National Poetry Month (NPM)! Founded by the League of Canadian Poets in 1998, NPM "brings together schools, publishers, booksellers, literary organizations, libraries, and poets from across the country to celebrate poetry and its vital place in Canada's culture." To mark the 13th anniversary of NPM, this year's theme is Nurture/ Nourrire, a celebration of poets, libraries and the Public Lending Rights Commission.
The National Poetry Month launch is being held at the Lillian H. Smith Library tonight. The shortlists for the Gerald Lampert and Pat Lowther Memorial Awards will also be announced this evening. For more NPM event listings, please visit Open Book's Events page and the League of Canadian Poet's website.
