A New Chapter for Bryan Prince

Share |

Bryan Prince is set to leave his Hamilton shop Bryan Prince Bookseller by the end of February, and pass the torch to employees Tracey Higgins and Kerry Cranston, sisters who have worked in the bookstore for a combined 38 years.

Prince, who grew up in the Westdale area, opened the store at the corner of King and Sterling streets in 1989. He now retires as one of the largest independent booksellers in the region.

As various journalists have noted, it is not the easiest of times for independent booksellers, given the rise of electronic readers and books, as well as online sales that challenge independents.

Nonetheless, Tracey and Kerry will maintain many of the characteristics that have made Bryan Prince Bookseller so successful — such as keeping a literary focus and offering a high level of heartfelt, personalized service.

In the meantime, Prince is planning to spend more time with his daughters and grandchildren, and volunteer with the literacy council and the children’s book festival.
