Canadian writer and artist Von Allan has announced that the second graphic novel in his Stargazer series is due out October 12. The first volume in the all-ages series revolves around three young girls and what happens when they find an artifact that transports the best friends to a strange, new world. The second volume picks up where the girls left off and takes them on a new adventure.
“In Volume Two, I really wanted to play with people’s expectations of an all-ages comic, especially one with younger girls as the protagonists,” says Allan in a press release. “I think a lot of people take all-ages to mean safe or gentle. But graphic novels and comics are flexible and I don’t think a children’s comic has to be completely tame for it to qualify as ‘kid-friendly.’”
Allan adds that the novel is just as much for adults as it is for children. “I wanted to create a riveting story with strong characters that readers of all ages could believe in. Nothing is worse than a book that talks down to or patronizes a reader regardless of their age, and I think I avoided all of that with Stargazer.”
Readers can also check out a preview of the sequel before it is released this fall.
