The Quebec Writer's Federation to Announce its Winners this Month

In the month of November, the Quebec Writer’s Federation Literary Awards will announce its winners.

The Quebec Writer’s Federation Awards are for published books by Quebec authors in six categories: fiction, non-fiction, poetry, first book, translation, and children's and young adult literature. The aim of the awards is to support English-language literature, writers and culture in Quebec. The prizes are each worth $2,000. The winners will be named on November 22 at the awards gala in Montreal.

Here are this year’s nominees:

Paragraphe Hugh MacLennan Prize for Fiction sponsored by Paragraphe Bookstore.

Mavis Gallant Prize for Non-Fiction sponsored by Champlain, Dawson, Heritage, John Abbott and Vanier colleges.

A.M. Klein Prize for Poetry sponsored this year by Richard Pound in memory of his brother Robert.

Concordia University First Book Prize sponsored by Concordia University.

Cole Foundation Prize for Translation (French to English) sponsored by the Cole Foundation.

  • Judith Cowan for Meridian Line, a translation of Paul Bélanger's Origine des méridiens (Véhicule)
  • Lazer Lederhendler for Apocalypse for Beginners, a translation of Nicolas Dickner's Tarmac (Random House)
  • Donald Winkler for Partita for Glenn Gould, a translation of Georges Leroux's Partita pour Glenn Gould (McGill-Queen’s University Press)

QWF Prize for Children's and Young Adult Literature sponsored by Babar Books.
