We are sad to learn that acclaimed Canadian writer Robert Kroetsch died yesterday in a car accident. He was driving home from the Artspeak Festival in Canmore, Alberta. A novelist, poet and non-fiction writer, Kroetsch was the author of many books, including the novel The Studhorse Man, for which he won the Governor General's Award in 1969. Kroetsch was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2004, and he recently received a lieutenant-governor's Alberta Distinguished Artist Award and a Golden Pen Award from the Writers' Guild of Alberta.
