Authors Jill MacLean, author of Home Truths, and Rebecca Bender, author of Giraffe and Bird, have both been shortlisted for the SYRCA (Saskatchewan Young Readers' Choice Awards) 2011. Alma Fullerton, author of Burn, has been nominated for the Canadian Library Association (CLA) Book of the Year for Children Award for 2011.

Giraffe and Bird, a picture book about an unlikely friendship between these two species, has been nominated in the Shining Willow category (kindergarten to grade 3). Home Truths, a young adult novel about a bully-in-the-making, has been nominated in the Snow Willow category (grades 7 to 9). Award winners will be announced April 12, 2011 at the SaskEnergy Willow Awards Gala at John Diefenbaker School in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

Burn by Alma Fullerton has been nominated for The Canadian Library Association (CLA) Book of the Year for Children Award. Burn explores a girl’s desperate attempt to keep her family together, even as her own growing obsessions threaten to destroy them all.

This is Alma’s second nomination for the award in two years. The Book of the Year for Children Award is sponsored by Library Services Centre, and recognizes a Canadian author of an outstanding book published in Canada in 2010, which appeals to children up to and including age 12. The winner of the award, and the Honour Books, will be announced prior to the National Canadian Library Association Conference and Trade Show. The award will be presented at the conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia on May 26 at the annual awards reception.
