From our friends at Thomas Allen Publishers and Cormorant Books:

Thomas Allen Publishers and Cormorant Books are pleased to announce an exciting new partnership.

Effective July 1, 2011, Thomas Allen & Son will become the Canadian distributor and sales representatives for Cormorant Books. In addition, Thomas Allen & Son will be acquiring a minority share in Cormorant Books. The two editorially driven companies will retain their current personnel, but the new partnership will allow for intellectual collaboration between the two houses, expanded publicity and marketing initiatives, and will, it is hoped, result in significantly increased visibility in the marketplace.

Both Thomas Allen Publishers and Cormorant Books have garnered reputations for publishing the best and brightest of Canadian fiction and non-fiction, and for championing new voices as well as established talents. With representation on every major prize list in Canada and strong sales in a challenging market, their authors have received critical acclaim and commercial success at the highest levels. Thomas Allen and Cormorant have long shared a unity of vision and publishing mission, which will now be strengthened by a more formal working relationship.

“In a period of transition in book publishing, this timely alliance will enhance both our lists by creating greater intellectual depth editorially, as well as drawing on a wider range of publishing resources. Marc Côté is one of the best editors in the country and I look forward very much to working with him in this inspired and creative partnership,” said Thomas Allen Publisher and Editor, Patrick Crean.

“I’ve long admired Jim Allen’s business savvy and Patrick Crean’s editorial vision. This arrangement may be new, but it’s an idea that the three of us have talked about for several years. The future for Cormorant Books appears very bright, thanks to this new partnership, and I am looking forward to working closely with Jim and Patrick,” said Cormorant Publisher, Marc Côté.
