from our friends at Toronto's Harbourfront Centre:

January 12 marks the on-sale date for tickets to Forest of Reading® Festival of Trees™. Taking the top spot as Canada’s largest children’s literary festival, this event, held in Toronto annually, draws more than 8,000 students and teachers for two fun-filled days of award ceremonies, workshops, activities and other exciting entertainment in celebration of Forest of Reading, a series of Ontario-wide children’s-choice award programmes.

Programme partners the Ontario Library Association and Authors at Harbourfront Centre (AUTHORS) are delighted to host the 4th instalment of the event on the Harbourfront Centre site from May 11 to 12, 2011. Each Forest of Reading Award will receive a dedicated ceremony announcing the year’s winner and is supplemented by activities throughout the day. The Festival of Trees includes the following award ceremonies for ages 5 to 17: Blue Spruce Award™ (Kindergarten–Grade 2); Silver Birch Express® (Grade 3–4); Silver Birch Fiction® (Grade 4–6); Silver Birch Non-fiction® (Grade 4–6); Red Maple Fiction Award™ (Grade 7–8); Red Maple Non-fiction Award™ (Grade 7–8); Le Prix Tamarack (French-language, Grade 4–6); Le Prix Tamarack Express (French-language, Grade 4–6); and White Pine Award™ (Grade 9–12).

Students across Ontario are now in the midst of reading 90 nominated works, and will cast votes for their favourite titles in late April.

Tickets are $13 each. For more information and to purchase tickets please visit readings.org and the Harbourfront Centre's Forest of Reading page.
