From The Diversity Peer Education Team of the Centre for Human Rights at York University:

Deadline for Submissions: Friday, January 28, 2011

As part of an International Women’s Day event, the Diversity Peer Education Team of the Centre for Human Rights at York University is calling out: Spoken word poets and story tellers, musicians and other performance artists.

Self expression can be used as a tool for social change. The DPET team would like to invite performers who embrace this philosophy and make it central to their work. The event is about how through our voices we rise from the barriers which can hold us back. The event is in celebration of women and empowerment. We are seeking performers who would be interested in volunteering their time for this event.

Voices Rising will be organized by the Diversity Peer Educator Team Member, Tiffany Goskey. As part of the event, we will be donating the $5.00 entry fee to a charity which works towards ending violence against women, moving low income women out of poverty, and empower girls with confidence. The event will last 3 hours. It will be held in the evening. TBA.

Submissions should include the following:

1. Online or e-mail submissions will be accepted in mp3 format or as a pdf attachment. Also, website or blog with writing/performance samples are accepted.

2. Short Bio. All submissions must include a mailing address, phone number and e-mail.

Send Entry To: Tiffany Goskey, Tiff81@yorku.ca
